Taoiseach Praises Work of Clonmel Chamber

An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen TD described Clonmel Chamber as a ‘major voice for business in the south east and as the key local business representative’ whilst addressing the Chamber’s economic conference at the Clonmel Park Hotel last Friday.

The event, which featured an impressive array of speakers, was the Clonmel Chamber’s most successful event to date according to President Tina Mulhearne. “The conference attracted business people from all sectors including energy, pharmaceutical, retail and construction and this was as a result of the variety of speakers that we had booked for the event,” she said.

Graham O’Donnell from Spirit Of Ireland spoke about his organisations ambitious plans to make the country energy independent, a speech that elicited numerous questions from those gathered. Jim Power, well known economist opened the conference entitled ‘Yes We Can’ with a speech centred on how we as a nation can turn the economy around.

The Taoiseach, who launched the Chamber’s ‘Brand Clonmel’ initiative, was fulsome in his praise for the efforts of the organisation and for the business community in the town.

Clonmel Chamber Chief Executive Brian Cleary paid tribute to the work of the volunteer board of directors who worked hard throughout the year to ensure that events such as the conference took place.

“This was our first major event for 2010 and we were fortunate to start on such a high note,” said Brian Cleary. “ Clonmel Chamber is at the forefront of developing the town and last Friday’s conference was an example of our commitment to increase opportunities for members and to develop Clonmel” he added.

85th National Coursing Festival in Clonmel

The 85th National Coursing Festival takes place in Clonmel on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week (1/2/3 Feb).  There is a large influx  of visitors to the town every year and it has been estimated that over €10 million is spent in Clonmel and its environs during the course of the festival.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish our members at the Irish Coursing Club every success for the event.

We have also been asked to remind members of the increased traffic in the area for the three days and especially in the vicinity of Powerstown Park on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Canadian Ambassador Meets with Clonmel Chamber

Representatives from Clonmel Chamber met with Mr. Patrick Binns, Canadian Ambassador to Ireland and Suzanne Cormie, Senior Canadian Trade Ambassador at Hotel Minella earlier this week.  Both parties discussed areas of common interest and have agreed to host an event in Clonmel later this year where Chamber members can explore opportunities to sell their products into the Canadian and North American market.  Canada offers huge scope for members companies as it is a member of NAFTA and as such has free trade access to the USA and Mexico.

The event with the Canadian embassy will be one of a number of events this year with embassies where we will be exploring opportunities abroad for Chamber members.  We will have further details shortly of the first event in the series.
