Taoiseach praises work of Clonmel Chamber at Confe
An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen TD described Clonmel Chamber as a ‘major voice for business in the south east and as the key local business representative’ whilst addressing the Chamber’s economic conference at the Clonmel Park Hotel last Friday.
The event, which featured an impressive array of speakers, was the Clonmel Chamber’s most successful event to date according to President Tina Mulhearne. “The conference attracted business people from all sectors including energy, pharmaceutical, retail and construction and this was as a result of the variety of speakers that we had booked for the event,” she said.
Graham O’Donnell from Spirit Of Ireland spoke about his organisations ambitious plans to make the country energy independent, a speech that elicited numerous questions from those gathered. Jim Power, well known economist opened the conference entitled ‘Yes We Can’ with a speech centred on how we as a nation can turn the economy around.
The Taoiseach, who launched the Chamber’s ‘Brand Clonmel’ initiative, was fulsome in his praise for the efforts of the organisation and for the business community in the town.
Clonmel Chamber Chief Executive Brian Cleary paid tribute to the work of the volunteer board of directors who worked hard throughout the year to ensure that events such as the conference took place.
“This was our first major event for 2010 and we were fortunate to start on such a high note,” said Brian Cleary. “ Clonmel Chamber is at the forefront of developing the town and last Friday’s conference was an example of our commitment to increase opportunities for members and to develop Clonmel” he added.
