A Euro 2012 themed poster campaign aimed at encouraging Clonmel shoppers to ‘support your local team’ has been launched by Clonmel Chamber. The posters, now in shops throughout town, are part of the organisation’s ongoing attempts to raise awareness about the importance of shopping locally.
“It has been great to see the Irish colours on display around the town in the past few weeks and there has been great excitement in the last few days about the team’s performance in Poland. What we are attempting to do is to highlight to shoppers that there is a local team of employees in local businesses, approximately one thousand of them, who also need support. This large Clonmel based team plays an important role in the local economy and we need to get behind them and support them too” said Chamber Chief Executive Brian Cleary at the launch of the campaign.
The posters were devised, designed and printed locally and follow on from the Christmas, Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day campaigns.
“There have been some setbacks recently in the retail sector locally. But we can all play a part in maintaining the jobs that currently exist and, perhaps, creating more. Clonmel has one of the widest ranges of retail offerings of any town in Ireland and we, as consumers, need to be mindful of that. Online shopping with internet giants and trips to Cork or Kildare Village have a negative impact on local jobs and we all need to be more mindful of this” he added.
Businesses or individuals seeking extra posters should contact the Chamber on 052 6126500 or call in to the offices in Sarsfield Street.
