Chamber Asks Lovers To Show Love For Local Jobs

Article Added: 2012/02/06

Clonmel Chamber’s ‘Show Your Love For Local Jobs’ campaign aims to get amorous Tipperary people to buy their Valentine’s presents in the town.  With February 14th fast approaching the Chamber is highlighting how gifts purchased can support local employment.

“Even in an economic downturn St. Valentine’s day still brings out the romantic in people.  It is also a time of the year, almost like Christmas, where the focus is on gifts and giving.  This year, we at Clonmel Chamber are asking people to shop locally for February 14th.  After all we have an excellent selection of card shops, florists, restaurants, jewellers and more throughout the town” said Chamber President Tina Mulhearne.

The retail and hospitality sector in the town employs over 1000 people according to Chamber statistics.  The campaign ‘Love Clonmel’ is part of their new year round policy of promoting local businesses and highlighting the impact of spending in the local economy.

“Initially when we began distributing the posters for this campaign people were confused as this is an initiative that traditionally happens in towns only at Christmas time.  However when we explained to them that we view this as a matter that requires a year round focus they quickly got behind us.  The ‘Love Clonmel’ campaign is a little bit tongue in cheek but if it supports, saves or creates jobs then it is well worth it” added the Chamber President.

Business who have not yet received the ‘Love Clonmel’ poster can contact Clonmel Chamber on 052 61 26500 to have one delivered.
