Shop Local Campaign Launched

Article Added: 2011/11/16

Clonmel Chamber is urging shoppers to support local businesses this year when carrying out their Christmas shopping. The business group, the largest in the county, has distributed hundreds of festive themed posters to shops throughout the town for display in their windows.

“Shop in Clonmel and support local jobs is exactly what we are asking people to do this Christmas” said Chamber CEO, Brian Cleary, speaking at the launch of the campaign earlier this week. “Now, more than ever, we need to look at what is on offer locally and seek to support it. Clonmel has a well won reputation as an excellent shopping location. The fact that many new shops in town have moved here ahead of other towns and cities in the region vindicates this. However, as a community, we need to realise that our spending decisions this Christmas will directly impact on the job security of our friends and families” he added.

Mayor Darren Ryan was on hand to launch the campaign with Clonmel Chamber president Tina Mulhearne. “Anything that encourages people to shop in Clonmel has to be supported and I congratulate the Chamber on the initiative. I do hope that people will stop to consider the impact that their spending decisions will have in the coming weeks” said the Mayor.

Businesses seeking additional posters should contact the Chamber on 052 61 26500.
