Clonmel Chamber has today lodged an objection to the proposed closure of Davis Road as part of the ongoing flood relief works. The objection highlights the detrimental impact that such a closure would have on businesses in the area.
The proposed closure would see Davis Road being closed to traffic from the roundabout at The Showgrounds to Silversprings for four weeks from March 28th.
“We have supported the flood relief works to date but believe that this is a step too far. To completely shut off access to this part of town will have a catastrophic effect on companies in that area” said Chamber CEO Brian Cleary. “Davis Road has been a vibrant part of the town for many years. We would rather that the contractor would liaise with the Chamber, the Borough Council and the businesses to devise a plan that will result in minimal disruptions to businesses and residents” he added.
The Chamber has been involved in meetings with the OPW and Clonmel Borough Council throughout the planning and undertaking of the flood relief works. The organisation was also responsible for proposing the introduction of a replacement bus service for the Old Bridge and other areas affected by bridge closures.
