Clonmel Chambers Asks Schools To Support Local

Article Added: 2011/02/21
Clonmel Chamber has written to all primary and secondary schools in Clonmel and surrounding areas encouraging them to keep their school tours in the area this year. The business group, the largest in Co. Tipperary, is highlighting the importance of staying locally as a means of supporting local jobs.

“This year more then ever it is vitally important that we all do what we can to support local jobs. Schools can play a major part in this. South Tipperary plays host to hundreds of thousands of tourists each year. It is an area rich in heritage and natural beauty. It makes sense on a number of levels for schools to keep their tours in South Tipperary this year” said Chamber CEO Brian Cleary.

“Parents and school councils can also play a part in persuading school management of the importance of this” he added.

A number of Chamber members are involved in a working group looking at how Clonmel can increase its share of the tourist market. For the last number of years they have produced the ‘Discover Clonmel’ brochure to highlight the attractions in the area. Last year ten thousand copies of the publication were distributed throughout Ireland.
