International trade figures released by Clonmel Chamber show that local companies experienced a significant increase in exports in 2010. The organisation is the local authorised signatory for export trade documentation.
“It is obvious from the activity levels that we witnessed last year that companies saw a very large increase in their exports outside of Europe” according to Brian Cleary, CEO of Clonmel Chamber. “We witnessed a four fold increase in the amount of paperwork that we processed in 2010 compared to 2009. One of the most encouraging aspects of this was that more companies were exporting outside of Europe. Clonmel has a well won reputation as a manufacturing location. We worked with more businesses last year who were making their first forays into exporting and who were opening up in new markets and that was very positive” he added.
Clonmel Chamber processes trade documentation for companies in South Tipperary seeking to export outside of the EU. In the past year the volume and range of products being exported has also increased significantly.
“We are constantly being reminded that we must get back to being an export driven economy and from the figures that we have supplied to the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Innovation it is obvious that Clonmel companies are leading the charge” said Chamber President Tina Mulhearne.
